THE ANCHOR

“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast.”
- Hebrews 6:19

The word anchor was transliterated into English from the Greek (ajvgkura).

Many Christians do not know that early believers did not use the cross as a symbol of the faith. This was because the letter “T,” the Greek tau, was the symbol of the pagan god Tamuz, a licentious idol with which they did not wish to be identified. One of the main Christian symbols of the first century was the anchor, which in various forms appears prominently on the walls of catacombs in Rome.

Because of the reference in Hebrews 6:19, the anchor spoke to First Century Christians of hope, or more specifically, the blessed hope of Jesus’ return in the air for His Church.

The blessed hope is at the heart of our ministry, so we at Dialogue have chosen the anchor as our logo.
